Residency at Devon Oasis Ministry

Take a deeper step into the community by becoming a resident at Devon Oasis. Often, we think of the excitement of traveling overseas to serve people. However, at Devon Oasis, we also recognize that the world has come to our front door, and we are pleased to welcome them.

Residents are men and women who decide to move into our community for 1-4 years and formally serve the families of Little India through Devon Oasis. They will receive professional, theological, and practical formation while at Oasis. Residents will be mentored in a way that prepares them for future leadership in Christian ministry.

Residents are responsible to raise their own financial support or secure employment in the community. And, while it is ideal for a resident to devote full-time service at Devon Oasis, it is not required. Residents are distinct from interns in that they are not necessarily joined to a formal academic program.

Frequently Asked Questions

KEEP EMPTY
How long can I serve?

Some of our interns serve a semester, while others remain throughout the entire school year or multiple years. Much of this depends on your academic requirements.

Residents minimally live in the community for a year, but may select to remain 2-4 years. By serving for this length of time, they establish deep and rooted relationships in the community.

Is this a paid internship?

Unfortunately, we are unable to pay our interns and residents.

Residents are encouraged to raise financial support, much like a person serving overseas.

Do you offer summer internships?

The majority of our programming revolves around the school-year calendar, as do our internships. Depending on synchronizing of schedules, we would be happy to do a summer internship. Please contact us for more information.

Do you provide housing?

Interns and residents are responsible to secure their own housing. While Devon Oasis Ministry does not have housing dormitories, we can assist your search for an apartment.

What is the difference between interns and residents?

Interns are usually college or graduate students who serve at Devon Oasis Ministry in order to fulfill academic requirements.

Residents live in Little India without academic requirement and ideally serve with us 15-25 hours a week. They help run our programs, build relationships within the community, and engage in specific areas of ministry outside of our normal, weekly programming.

Do I have to raise my own support as a resident?

As a resident, you have the option to raise your own missions support or work another job to provide for yourself.

What will I do at Devon Oasis Ministry?

At first, you will help in several of our activities. In time, you may be given specific duties which will occupy most of your time. A specific focus will be determined over time by what best meets current needs and what best develops your skills.
